Schneider Black Print 750ml

30865-od

$70.99 price per bottle Expert Advice

This dark, fruity and highly concentrated wine is the result of a perfect union between very ripe grapes and individual vineyard sites. Choosing the ideal harvesting time for these very different grape varieties is the greatest challenge. By pursuing an idea and without a plan we ended up with a wonderfully successful product without which our life as vintners would undoubtedly look different. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Dorsa

Wine maker notes
?Making wine was the starting point of my life? This quote from Markus Schneider gets it onto the point and shows how much he is connected to wine. On a first sight, this might not be too much of a surprise, as he after all grew up in Ellerstadt, a small village in the Palatinate where vineyard to vineyard and wine estate to wine estate is lining up. Yet Markus Schneider has built something special here: A winery that he founded in 1994 with only one hectare and is now expanded into an international brand. Today he manages around 92 hectares - and, top international restaurants and hotels, the best airlines and cruise fleets in the world included his wines into their portfolio. The vineyards extend from Ellerstadt up to the ridges of the Haardt Mountains. With the traditional manor house as family residence and the impressive winery building the Estate is located just right in the center: On the small hill of a historic single vineyard, overlooking the vineyards and the Haardt district. The length of the growing region provides Markus Schneider and his team very clear advantages: Even in the warm summer months where temperatures in the valley could reach up to 38?C and forcing the berries to ripe quicker, this is very much slowed down at the Hillside with its early shading, and the cooler soils and winds. In any case, time is a factor, which Markus Schneider does not neglect even with 92 hectares to cultivate. That shows his ambition to manage each single parcel of the estate, regardless of the size, of the area under vines, and the work involved individually. Particular focus is given to biological, nature friendly treatment of the vineyards without using herbicides, insecticides and fertilizers, but with careful undervine weed control, purely organic fertilizer and sowing of various grasses and herbs to strengthen the vineyard. The way to make it from a small winegrowing village to the global stage Markus Schneider explains with ambition and dedication, a strong vision, and a neat shot of the palatinate emotionality. And of course the family which firmly stands behind him and the Estate - and which might continue the business for the next coming generations ? The fact is, however, that the entire Schneider family is living at and working for the Estate. As their personality reaches all elements of the common work they proudly stand behind each bottle bearing their name. In total 800,000 bottles of wine are produced on the estate annually, half of them red, the other half white wines. The planted varieties include both local, indigenous grapes such as Riesling, Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), and Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), but also arrivals from the Old and New World, as Syrah, Viognier and Blaufrankisch. Purity, concentration, a long finish, and lots of freshness are the common thread of all wines which are the important elements for the Estate. With exceptional names like Tohuwabohu, Holy Moly, and Kaitui this thread is communicated externally. The Markus Schneider story shows: We live in the ?land of ideas?. Courage, hard work and determination will be finally rewarded. At this conviction we maintain also in the future and follow our instincts as a family all together. To rest is certainly not an option for us ?
