If there were such a thing as a classic Contra Costa County Zinfandel (and we're slowly but surely working towards that!) the Salvador would be it. The vineyard was planted in 1896 on its own roots in Delhi blow sand, which prevented phylloxera from rearing its ugly head. Soils are over 40 feet deep which allows the roots to extend deep into underground water tables. What sets the Salvador apart from other Zinfandels is the white fruit and floral aromatics - nectarine, orange blossom and peach pit. The wine is focused by firm acidity and stable, supple tannins that will help it age gracefully as well.
