James Suckling Review
A selection of around 100 barrels from the Dundee Hills estate pinot, this has a deeply grounded and confidently defined feel on the palate with density of tannin and a strong, noble core that carries long and builds so convincingly. Long, sustained, seamless quality to the finish. Drink over the next decade.
VinoUS Media Review
Shimmering ruby-red. High-pitched red fruit, floral and exotic spice aromas are complemented by suave incense and vanilla flourishes. Sweet, seamless and penetrating on the palate, offering vibrant raspberry, boysenberry, cherry preserve and spicecake flavors that convey a deft blend of power and delicacy. Finishes extremely long and precise, with resonating floral character and well-judged, polished tannins that sneak in late. (Josh Raynolds)
Wine Enthusiast Review
Not to overgeneralize, but many if not most Willamette Valley Pinots were significantly bigger, bolder and richer in 2016 than in 2017. DDO's 2017s are one exception: just as good and in some instances even better this vintage. Ripe scents and flavors highlight blueberry compote, dappled with fresh herbs, notably rosemary and thyme. It's an elegant, nicely detailed wine, with the structure to improve over the next decade or longer.
The trademark of the vintage is its precision, the purity of flavor, clearly layered across the palate. The texture is very fine, and the flavors are a burst of fresh red fruits, in contrast to the darker fruits of recent vintages. As I hope for, the finish is very long, and I expect that we can all enjoy the Laurene for at least 10 years or more!
