Company on Label: Elijah Craig (Heaven Hill). Whiskey Type: Bourbon. Mash Bill Percentages: 78% Corn, 10% Rye, 12% Barley. Proof: 118. 2°. Age: NAS, but used to be 12 years. Further identification: Batch B521. Nose: Peppery caramel. Simple syrup sweet cherry, feels like the start to a great cocktail. Light tinges of pine boughs along the edges of a solid oak forward profile. Still sweet with some fig and strawberry marmalade. Interesting slight rye grain pokes through here. I wonder if this batch is significantly different in base age than previous batches. . Palate: Sweet, but zesty! Orange peel is prevalent on my first sip. Stinging lemon zest and still very sweet forward, but slightly synthetic flavors come out at times. A good swig and swish is very hot on the palate, with only some tannic wood, lemon peel and something like a beer wort. I think this pour is better suited for either rocks or a cocktail for sure! Nutty at times as it mellows out drastically towards the bottom of the pour. Not bad.
