Port Askaig, 45 YO, 40. 8% ABV
This is an unpeated Bunnahabhain distilled in 1968, and bottled in 2015. It was blended together from five sherry casks and allowed to marry for one year. Only 1,200 bottles were produced.
The color is a dark gold. On the nose, there are floral aromas, along with sweet honey notes, dried orange zest, stone fruits and green fruits. There is also a slight, herbal, eucalyptus like note, as well as aromas of dried fruit, nuts and furniture wax, typical of extended sherry cask aging.
On the palate, there is citrus, dried fruit, especially tropical and stone fruit, some wood, along with some notes of mint, cinnamon and nutmeg. The whisky is very smooth and creamy, with a pronounced palate weight typical of ultra-aged sherry cask matured whiskies.
The finish is long, dry, satiny smooth, with pronounced dried stone fruit flavors and a bit of pepperiness.
