This heavily-peated Highland whisky hails from one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, just outside the picturesque village of Crieff. Although this small distillery is known for its unpeated style, it also produces a powerful peated distillate known as Ruadh Maor. Nose: fat smoky aromas of bacon, seaweed, some citrus and new leather, it’s remarkably coastal for a landlocked distillate. Taste: continues this theme with powerful peat smoke developing into tobacco, some rich fruit, over ripe blood orange with a distinctly coastal tang. Finish: A long finish brings some oak with a little spice mingling with the fading ashy smoke.
