The Vineyard Tolliver Ranch Vineyard situated on the eastern side of the Paso Robles AVA, on the Estrella River bench. It amasses to almost 600 acres; comprised of wine grapes, blueberries, and land available for planting. The Tolliver Ranch vineyard holds a collection of Cabernet Sauvignon clones that is unrivaled in the surrounding area. The History Originally owned by the winery Villa Mt. Eden, Tolliver Ranch was planted in 2000 with a focus on an array of unique Cabernet clones and the Shiraz clone. Rob Murray purchased the vineyard in 2004 and subsequently grafted about 12. 5 acres of the Cabernet to Petite Sirah. Cabernet Sauvignon plantings currently total 143 acres. The Land Bordered by the Estrella river, this river-bench vineyard features sandy, gravely, well-drained soils that, unlike most soil profiles in the region, are acidic due to the presence of decomposed granite. The combination of Tolliver Ranch’s gravely soil and gently rolling landscape translates to consistent growing conditions with extremely uniform ripening. The Seasons Due to its proximity to the Estrella river basin this vineyard sees cold winters, with many below-freezing days. The Spring at Tolliver Ranch remains relatively cold and the vines push late. Early Summer brings moderately warm days and cool nights. Warm days contrasted with cool evenings in late September and October promote grapes that ripen late. Early Summer brings moderately warm days and cool nights that continue through late September and October, promoting grapes that ripen late. Cabernet grapes from Tolliver Ranch are typically ready to be picked toward the end of October and occasionally even into November. This extended ripening time ensures grapes that are fully mature, balanced in sugar and acidity. The Farming Rob takes care to ensure the vineyard isn’t farmed with a heavy hand. As the terroir is naturally conducive to producing uniform fruit, the focus at the site is on limiting interference with the vineyard, giving the vines freedom to prosper in their ideal locations. Producer Rabble Wine Company creates Central Coast flavors with edgy and historical labels. The end result? A bottle of wine that truly over-delivers. Our Central Coast winery showcases the best fruit from Paso Robles and the Santa Maria Valley. Our wine style exemplifies bright acidity, all while showcasing true varietal characteristics. Balance is the theme throughout, keeping alcohol levels below 15% and finely-tuning tannins to deliver a lush, full bodied wine with balanced acidity. The labels all incorporate beautiful public domain art rooted in history: woodblock prints from the 1500s, illustrations by John James Audubon, and etchings from William Blake and John Boydell. Our labels, like our wines, are known to engage, evoke emotion, and spark conversation. After drinking our wine, we hope you’ll see and experience the world a little differently.
