The Contrade wines are produced in the historic cellars of MASSERIA LI VELI with grapes from a small group of local farmers and made according to the highest standards of quality. The Falvo Family started this project in 2015 to identify and raise awareness of the best indigenous grape varietals in this prolific and ancient region, making wines that express both the traditions and the elegance of Puglia. Contrade, from Latin, signifies the parcels of land, bordered by olive trees or other natural features, that become identifiable by their name. The ancient Contrada Veli, the building block of our territory, was mentioned in a 17th century map and was divided into Veli Grandi and Veli Piccoli. The name Veli has remained to identify the area and the Masseria as well, which was built later in 1895.

| Li Veli is situated in Puglia, the heel of Italy's boot, which is also the largest wine-producing region in the country. In 1999 the Falvo family (former owners of Avignonesi in Tuscany) bought the 128 acre property in Salice Salentino, heart of the Salento region. The vineyard portion of the estate currently measures 35 hectares Li Veli highlights the region's principal native varietals, like Negroamaro and Primitivo, which are made into powerful, inky dark wines of great character and elegance. Through proper vineyard management and vinification Li Veli has established a new quality benchmark for wines from Puglia. |
