Battle Axe Malbec signals the end of dull wines. This is a 100% Varietal Malbec, sourced from a Single Vineyard Estate consisting of vines that are over 80 years old. The vineyard is harvested by hand and the wine is aged in new French oak barrels for a full 12 months. Battle Axe possesses a deep ruby red color with vivid purple tones and offers a complex nose of wild berries with subtle spice notes. Its superb fruit flavors combine perfectly with toasty hues providing great structure, character and a long finish. Wine maker notes Situated within Lujan de Cuyo appellation, the 75 acre BattleAxe vineyard is part of the Agrelo district, considered one of the most important vineyard districts of Argentina. The vineyard site is 3326 feet above sea level and lies at the base of the Aconcagua mountains, the highest peaks in the Americas. Grown using sustainable viticulture practices in crisp, pollution-free air, the vineyard is irrigation fed by naturally pure, melted snow from the Andes. The fine-grained sandy soil is considered the best in the province. Warm days are offset by cool nights plunging by as much as 45°F - an extraordinary variance that enhances richness of wine’s aroma/flavor, and deepens color. The vineyard is planted exclusively with Malbec vines that range in age from 80 years old to 100+. These original French Malbec clones produce very low yields with intense concentration of fruit favor. The Battleaxe vineyard is always thinned by hand and hand harvested.
