Founded in 1983, Charbay Distillery & Winery is owned and managed by Master Distiller Miles Karakasevic, his wife Susan, their son Marko and his wife, Jenni. The Karakasevics are considered pioneers in the American artisan distillery movement - not surprising, when you realize that the family comes from a long line of distillers dating back to 1751 in the former Yugoslavia. In 2009, Marko became the family?s 13th generation of Master Distillers to work in the business. Based in Napa Valley, the distillery is located on Spring Mountain above St. Helena, California. They produce a range of vodkas and spirits distilled in their Alambic Charentais Pot Still. Charbay released its first fruit flavored vodka in 1998 and Marko was promptly named a ?Vodka Visionary? by Food & Wine Magazine. All of their fruit based vodkas are made with 100% organically grown fruit.

| (70?) Tree ripened fruit is harvested and delivered to the distillery within 24 hours after picking. The fruit is crushed (including skins) to extract the oils, juice, zest and color. It takes nearly six months to integrate the extract with Charbay?s Clear Vodka. |

They work side by side with their son Marko & his wife, Jenni, to carry on the inherited artisan traditions. The family is one of the early pioneers in the modern American artisan distillery movement. They began distilling in California in 1983 with Alambic Pot Still Brandy and haven't stopped since then. Marko is Generation XIII to carry on the family's European heritage of fermenting & distilling. It's hard to find someone with a more spontaneous love of the art form all grounded in solid experience. This family is hands on and it shows in the quality of everything they bottle. Based in Napa Valley, the family lives and works admidst peaceful pine trees on Spring Mountain above St. Helena - at the affectionately known as "The Still on the Hill". Creativity and passion are grounded with a powerful professional background. |
