The history of Chateau de Valmer dates back to the early 15th century. Originally owned by King Charles VII of France, the current owners of the Chateau began making wine at the end of the 19th century. Aymar de Saint Venant, the 4th consecutive generation of his family to manage the property, has made significant improvements during his tenure. In the 1970s, he restored the vineyard, renovated the original buildings and winery and replanted “Le Clos,” – a historic 14 acre parcel that sits on the highest part of the estate. The estate spans 69 acres and is situated between the appellations of Vouvray and Touraine. The vineyards of Chateau de Valmer are planted on hillsides that face south/southwest in the communes of Chancay and Reugny.

Technical notes
(100% Chenin Blanc). Chenin Blanc, also known as “Pineau de Loire,” is grown on calcareous tuffau soils. The wine was fermented in glass-lined thermoregulated tanks at 66°F and aged on its fine lees with no oak and made in a “sec-tendre” style with just a slight hint of sweetness.
