Wine maker notes |
The grapes for our Cabernet Sauvignon come primarily from the Red Hills appellation in Lake County. Characterized by the red volcanic soils of the Mayacamas mountain range, this area is ideal for red varietals. The well-drained, nutrient-poor soils benefit the fruit by naturally moderating the crop load and producing intense, concentrated flavors. The rolling hills give each block a unique orientation and a range of flavors and harvest dates. At 2,000 to 2,500 feet, these vineyards are among the highest on the North Coast, resulting in large diurnal temperature swings that ripen the red grapes fully while maintaining fruit intensity and balanced acidity. |
