Wine maker notes
Located on the Cote Chalonnaise, in the continuation of the Cote de Beaune, the steep Mercurey slope is known for its powerful, expressive wines. The largest producer in the appellation, Chateau de Santenay endeavours to reveal the influence of the clayey marl soil at its best. Rigorous sorting enables the most elegant tannins to be obtained, resulting in the creation of voluptuous wines.

Producer
Chateau de Santenay has a rich medieval past and was formerly owned by the Duke of Burgundy, Philippe le Hardi (Philip the Bold); today it possesses a magnificent 98 hectare vineyard. Chateau de Santenay is among the properties that reflect the true character of Burgundy. Located on the slopes surrounding the village of Santenay, the chateau stands like a flagship, a majestic stately home that once belonged to Philippe le Hardi (Philip the Bold) (1342-1404), the First Duke of Burgundy and son of King Jean le Bon (John the Good) of France. Now owned by the Credit Agricole Group, Chateau de Santenay has 98 hectares of vines in a dozen appellations, including Mercurey, Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Santenay Premier Cru, Pommard, Saint Aubin, Beaune Premier Cru, and Aloxe Corton. One third of the wines produced are white and two thirds are red. Chateau de Santenay has been managed by CA Grands Crus since 2012.
