The Huber family has been making wine in Austria since 1648. Located in the wine region of Traisental, the estate is managed by owner and winemaker Markus Huber, who represents the 10th generation of the family to preside over the winery. A four-time winner of the Falstaff Gruner Veltliner Grand Prix, Markus studied viniculture in Klosterneuburg, Austria and spent time in South Africa and Austria, where he worked with Willi Brundlmayer in Kamptal. The 99 acre estate is planted on small terraces consisting of sandy loam top soil over limestone. The vineyards are certified sustainable, with one third farmed organically. Gruner Veltliner, Riesling, Zweigelt, Sauvignon Blanc and Gelber Muskateller are grown. During harvest a rigorous triage is practiced in the vineyards, with four to five passes being typical. Priced for everyday enjoyment, the Hugo line represents a series of wines produced with grapes sourced from small single vineyards in the Traisental.

| At the tender age of twenty-three, Markus Huber took over the task of making wine at his family’s winery in the Traisental region of Austria. The Huber family has been making wine from their land for five generations, but has owned it since 1778, which equates into nine generations. The first four generations practiced coopering. Markus and his father, Anton share the efforts of viticulture, while it is now all Markus’s hand in the cellar. Wines from Austria named Markus Huber the young winemaker of the year 2002. Also in Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, edition 123 it is written that "25-year old Huber is one of the most promising new talents in the Austrian wine industry". |
