Wine maker notes
To the south of Beaune, the village of Pommard is known for its exclusive production of powerful red wines. Over the centuries drainage work has been carried out on the plots around the village, from which the vines benefit greatly today. Often closed when they are young, the wines of Pommard are suited to lengthy periods of laying down. As the years pass, the wines? finesse is revealed through aromatic profiles that blend fruit and spices.

Producer
Chateau de Santenay has a rich medieval past and was formerly owned by the Duke of Burgundy, Philippe le Hardi (Philip the Bold); today it possesses a magnificent 98 hectare vineyard. Chateau de Santenay is among the properties that reflect the true character of Burgundy. Located on the slopes surrounding the village of Santenay, the chateau stands like a flagship, a majestic stately home that once belonged to Philippe le Hardi (Philip the Bold) (1342-1404), the First Duke of Burgundy and son of King Jean le Bon (John the Good) of France. Now owned by the Credit Agricole Group, Chateau de Santenay has 98 hectares of vines in a dozen appellations, including Mercurey, Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Santenay Premier Cru, Pommard, Saint Aubin, Beaune Premier Cru, and Aloxe Corton. One third of the wines produced are white and two thirds are red. Chateau de Santenay has been managed by CA Grands Crus since 2012.
