| This family-run estate, owned by the Cifola family, farms roughly 33 hectares (25 planted to white grapes). The family’s first vintage was the 1966; Aldo Cifola, the son of the founder, now runs the show. The estate is called La Monacesca (deriving from the word monaco, “monk”) because it used to be a monastery. The estate produces 150,000 bottles per year, 27,000 of which are Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva Mirum, made from massal selections of Verdicchio.
